Inside a Let Animals Lead ® Method of Animal Reiki

Session with Twister

Twister, a 23 year-old gelding romping in the snow a few days after his Reiki Session!

Ever wonder what happens inside a Reiki Session with animals? Heather, Twister’s loving care-taker, shares her perspective of inside a Let Animals Lead® Method of Animal Reiki session. I have studied this method of Animal Reiki directly with Kathleen Prasad (the creator of Let Animals Lead®) and is thrilled to share with animals whenever I have the opportunity.

These sessions invite us to become fully present and in the flow of the universal energy. Check out Heather’s observations, and you will see the Let Animals Lead Method® come to life!

I highly recommend Annie for an equine Reiki session. My horse, Twister (23 yr old Draft Cross) has been dealing with stifle injuries (both sides/left being new) and general soreness for a while now.

Annie arrived on time and was professional and polite. I noticed her calmness right away. I had never seen a Reiki session before, so I had no idea what to expect. Annie explained what she planned to do. She stated that it was up to the horse to participate or not. There was no force of the connection. Annie explained what behaviors I might see from my horse during the session. I quietly left Annie in my field to do her thing while I stayed in the barn watching from a distance.

At first my horse and pony Hank noticed her but stayed some distance. Almost like they were ignoring her. After several minutes both my horse and pony turned facing Annie. After a brief second, they both started walking towards her. This was interesting for Hank because he doesn’t like strangers and generally stays away. Hank walked right up and allowed Annie to stroke him before Twister got between them. Twister wanted all the good vibes for himself. Twister got very close and closed the personal space between them. Annie never moved. Twister lipped her hands, jacket, face, hair, and hat before settling on continually touching her face. After a few moments, Annie reached for him, and he leaned into her touch. She slowly worked her way down the left of his neck, shoulder, side, and hip. The left side is where the most recent injury was. I had never told Annie that. I just found it interesting that she was drawn to that side. It wasn’t a pressured touch at all. As Annie got to his left hip, Twister started licking his lips and yawned a few times. After a moment or so at the hip Twister walked away about 8 feet, yawning repeatedly. Stepped away a couple more feet and shook very hard stretching his neck. With that he walked off and the session was over.

I have never seen Twister react to a stranger that way. He loves treats and will do just about anything for them. However, if you don’t have goodies, he doesn’t visit long. But Annie offered no treats, yet he stayed with her for several minutes. I am happy to say that Twister appears to be happier. I can’t say whether the session did or did not help because I really have no history with Reiki. However, I can confirm that I witness a connection and behavior that my horse doesn’t normally project. I can also confirm that his attitude is much better and doesn’t appear to be moody or unhappy as before.

Let Animals Lead ® Method of Animal Reiki Session Observations:

  • The horses lead the session and choose their distance.

  • Touch is only applied at the animals’ request only.

  • Energy release happens in many ways with horses - shaking it out, licking, chewing, stretching, walking, stretching, long blinks, etc.

  • They will let you know when they are ready to end the session, there isn’t really a time limit. Each session has its own organic timeline, usually 20-60 minutes.
